[quote]Most new companies and new projects within existing companies are choosing open source infrastructure such as the LAMP stack. We don’t see competition there.

Mybe "cheaper" is the biggest advantage in open source.

I think the biggest benefit of open source is its production model:  it is *user driven*, agile, creates software that is demanded by users rather than pushing packages, that noone has been waiting for, into the market with tons of sales & marketing efforts.
And, of course, this comes down to a higher efficiciency and lower cost/prices.
You'll see few CEOs of $40M companies like my friend Marten at MySQL saying: "users are more important than customers".

As developer, user is the most important,
but as user/customer, price is must be thought about seriously.
Market may be the biggest power (if the product would like to make a great success).
Of course, the both don't conflict with each other.

a cup of Java, cheers!
