  • Re: GPL Licensing with App which contains a closed source .dll also?

From http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html: Can I write free software that uses non-free libraries? If you do this, your program won't be fully usable in a free environment. If your program depends on a non-free library to do a certain job, it cannot do that job in the Free World. If it depends on a non-free library to run at all, it cannot ...

  • Re: License Qualms

German, ''db4o is not experimenting in new legal ground here (for example MySQL has the same dual licensing scheme)'' Precisely the reason that I (and others) pick and choose GPLed applications and libraries based upon the organization in control.  As a GPL licensor myself I often prefer to direct people to Creative Commons' published ...

  • Re: License Qualms

Well, I found the answers to my own questions: http://www.db4o.com/about/company/legalpolicies/gplinterpretation.aspx I'm sorry that there appears to be a disagreement on this issue, but I do feel that db4o's policy as written on the above webpage is a poor choice.  I understand that db4o feels a need to be profitable, but abusing Copyright ...

  • License Qualms

I've got a bad taste in my mouth from reading through what I've seen so far of db4o's licensing documents and I'm hoping this is just a bad first impression... Is db4o implying that dynamically linking their DLL creates a derivation?  Is this how db4o plans to litigate? I realize that the FSF continues to support such an abominable ...

  • Re: Licensing opinion

My points:1. I don't care about price for me. I care about future of OODB.2. In my opinion - making such large marketing and such stopping price/value ratio disallowing you to grow as you can.3. Nobody talking about making product free. So don't name it free-ride. I was talking about being more flexible - some will pay royalty of 20% from product ...

Eric Falsken: Kosenko Max: Christof: The benefits of open source are that we can have a discussion like this.  It's about openness, sincerity, scrutiny.  Try to have a discussion like this  with Oracle or Microsoft, and you'll know what I mean. Actually we can talk with Microsoft about that. But the result will be the same ...
